Vitamin soft drinks that promote being “healthy” and fortified with additives such as ginseng and vitamin B are showing up everywhere these days. The marketing behind these products wants you to believe they are not only thirst quenching, but nutritious too.
Don’t be fooled. First of all, the amounts of vitamins in these products are usually tiny. For example, you would have to drink almost five, 12 ounce cans of Diet Coke Plus to get your RDA of B Vitamins.
In addition, certain water soluble vitamins break down over time, especially when they are in an acidic environment such as soda. They also break down when left unrefrigerated which is the case with most soda before it is purchased.
Water fortified drinks such as Vitawater aren’t any better. Not only are the vitamin levels in these drinks minimal, they are usually packed with sugar.
Your best solution is to get your vitamins from eating a healthy diet or by taking a daily supplement.
